#ShareTheLove This October in Support of Cancer Warriors

Knowledge is power. Know your family history.

Living with Cancer SA is working to capture the realities behind the numbers through the first patient-led cancer registry. By gathering data and amplifying stories, they aim to better understand the cancer burden in South Africa and create solutions rooted in real patient experiences.

Whether it is breast cancer, prostate cancer, cervical cancer, lung cancer, or childhood cancer, awareness is the first step, early detection is the second, and collective data will drive long-term change. Act now, scan the QR code in Forest Walk, and help create a reliable and recent database today.

Breast Cancer

Did you know?
According to the National Cancer Registry (NCR), approximately 19.4 million women aged 15 years and older live at-risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer, the cancer affecting women in South Africa the most.

Reduce the risk through regular examination. If you feel or see any change in your breasts or underarms, arrange for a Clinical Breast Examination at your local CANSA Care Centre, primary health care centre, or health practitioner.

Living with Cancer SA is committed to ensuring that breast cancer statistics in South Africa reflect real patient experiences through its patient-led cancer registry. Each data

Prostate Cancer

Did you know?
Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer globally and locally and is showing significant increases. According to the National Cancer Registry, the lifetime risk for prostate cancer in men in South Africa is 1 in 16.

Reduce the risk through regular examination. Males aged 50 and older should book a routine Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) testing at least once every two years.

Living with Cancer SA works alongside men and their families to capture the lived reality behind these statistics. By contributing to data collection, they aim to bring visibility to men’s cancer journeys and strengthen calls for regular screening and better treatment access.

Cervical Cancer

Did you know?
Cervical cancer is the 2nd most common cancer among South African women, but the cancer that women die of most in our country. According to the National Cancer Registry, women in South Africa have a 1 in 41 lifetime risk of cervical cancer.

Reduce the risk by having regular Pap smears.
Pap smears can detect abnormal cells in the cervix (lower part or mouth of the womb) that could develop into cervical cancer. Women aged 30 years and older are advised to have three Pap smears in their lifetime at 30, 40, and 50 at a primary health care centre or health clinic.

Through its registry and awareness work, Living with Cancer SA is amplifying the need for accessible cervical cancer screening. Every woman’s story matters and every data entry helps strengthen the fight against preventable death.

Lung Cancer

Did you know?

According to the National Cancer Registry, lung cancer is among the top 5 cancers in men and among the top 10 in women in South Africa. The most important risk factor for lung cancer remains tobacco smoking.

Reduce the risk by not smoking. Following a healthy diet and incorporating moderate physical activity into your daily routine can help reduce the risk.

Living with Cancer SA is ensuring that the experiences of lung cancer patients too often hidden behind stigma are counted and heard. By capturing real stories and statistics, they help drive national action on prevention and treatment access.

Childhood Cancer

Did you know?
Childhood cancer is rare, but it is the leading disease-related cause of death among children worldwide. In South Africa, early diagnosis can dramatically improve survival rates.

The gold ribbon symbolises strength, courage, and the resilience of young warriors and their families. Living with Cancer SA honours every child’s story by ensuring that these journeys are included in South Africa’s first patient-led cancer registry.

Together, we can build knowledge, raise awareness, and ensure no child or family faces cancer alone.

Cancer Ribbon Colours

#ShareTheLove this October in support of cancer warriors by wearing a ribbon.

  • Pink: breast cancer
  • Teal: cervical cancer
  • Light blue: prostate cancer
  • White: lung cancer
  • Gold: childhood cancer

Every ribbon tells a story; every colour symbolises a fight.
Living with Cancer SA is working to ensure that behind each ribbon, there is data, awareness, and action. Together, we make cancer visible.
